This banjo is probably about 100 years old. The tailpiece is marked patented in 1887. Maker unknown, but it is personalized for the customer. Scale = 24.5 (620mm).
Head size = 11 (279mm). Note - various 11 banjo heads are easily available due to their extensive use on current bluegrass, clawhammer, folk, frailing, Dixieland, Irish, Celtic, and Scottish banjos.
Action is high and need adjustment. Neck is cedar or mahogany. Neck has about 0.004 relief under very light tension. Frets are in very good condition, showing light visible wear with no heavy wear or divots.Fretboard appears to be ebony veneer; good condition, with one very small ding near fret #1. The headstock inlay is MOP, a single star, which appears to have replaced a double-star pattern at some time in the past.
The filler in the double-star pattern is shrunk. Either the filler, or the star itself, should be replaced for improved cosmetic appearance. Rim construction appears to be nickel or chrome plated metal over blonde wood (painted black). 20 hooks/nuts, plus tailpiece hook (21 total). Missing one hook and nut. Three hooks are bent at the tail. NOTE: Some people like an invoice; other prefer to pay right away with no invoice. To accommodate both, I will wait two days before sending an invoice.
