Presented for your consideration is this antique coverlet. The coverlet features an intricate white floral design against a blue background on the front and an ornate blue design against a white background on the opposite side. Blue and white fringe is around the sides with a piece of blue and white polka dot edging along the top.
In the bottom corners it is signed John Kittinger Springfield Portage County Ohio 1840. John Kittinger made coverlets from 1836 to 1840 and his color blocks contained his name, date and location. A few of the coverlets also contained the client's name that he was making the blanket for. The coverlet has some heft to it and would be very warm. Appears to be free of rips, tears and holes.
Also appears to be free of any staining, except for one very small brown spot near the center. This nice looking coverlet would make a great addition to any antique textile collection! Overall the coverlet is in EXCELLENT condition.
