This offering is for an antique 19th century hand carved wooden bag stamp. 9.25" wide by 6.5" high and 2.75 thick including the applied handle. The face features deeply carved lettering in reverse that reads "MAHARASATRA CLOTH" withing a fancy scrolled frame. Please note that we have provided a flipped image as our third photo to make the block easier for you read.

Both the lettering and the frame have a coat of dark red paint on the surface left from when the stamp was being used. There is a small piece of the frame at the bottom right corner missing, otherwise the condition is excellent with minor wear but no chips, cracks or breaks. The name Maharasatra is for a cloth made in India, however with the English word Cloth being used it was likely is was made for stamping goods here.
