Up for sale is my 19th. Century 8 key Cocuswood flute, stamped Metzler & Co, London. This flute is in excellent condition and full playing order. There is one partial crack in the headjoint (see photo 3) which has been repaired, and other than this, the flute is in entirely original condition.
The keys and rings are Nickel Silver, as is the full banded lip plate and the tone hole bushings. The keys bear the initials of Alexander Liddle see photo 8 A. The flute is stamped METZLER & CO. LONDON on each and every section, (see photo 9). The Brass leaf springs and leather pads are in excellent working order. The low C keys sound clearly, and are easy to operate, benefiting from an occasional application of light oil. The wood has a strong grain pattern and attractive hue, all told, making this a beautiful, historic, fully functioning instrument. This flute plays at A = 440 Hz.With a tuning slide extension of 10 mm. The intonation is excellent for a period instrument, with no flat foot.
This Metzler plays with the characteristic reedy sound so commonly associated with typical Traditional Irish Flute playing. It has a clear powerful sound, and cuts through in any session. Please also see my Four Key 19th. Century English Flute for sale in my other listings.
