Up for sale is my 19th. Butler and Sons 8 key Cocuswood flute. This flute is in very good overall condition, with the usual repairs to head and barrel. The original head crack had passed through the embouchure, which at some time has been bushed and re-cut to restore its integrity. (see photos 3-4) The Cocus is a beautiful hue, with strong grain pattern throughout.

The keys and rings are made from Nickel Silver. This flute has been stamped on the head and left hand section (see photos 7-8).

The stamp on the left hand section reads G. BUTLER & SONS, 29 HAYMARKET, LONDON, AND DUBLIN. " Some of the longer keys bear the initials "H. This large holed flute plays for me at A = 440 Hz. With a slide extension of 10 mm. Intonation is good for a period instrument, with the A and B needing slight lipping down. I find it plays at its optimum with the head slightly turned out a few degrees.

This flute is easy to hold and finger, and plays with a bright and reedy tone. Certainly a good flute for Traditional Irish Music.
